I spend most of my day cocooned away on my work chair and typing away to glory. By the time, I’m done with my day and get around to doing other things, my back can feel mush – if I don’t have the right chair to work on! Most of the time we underestimate the importance of a great chair and don’t pay enough attention while selecting one. When in reality, we really shouldn’t. We spend the majority of our day sitting on chairs, whether we’re working in our home office, enjoying a meal, or simply sitting and reading a book for leisure! Hence, this piece of furniture needs to be not only comfortable but ergonomic and aesthetic as well. It needs to provide good support to our backs and butts, and also somehow harmoniously complement the rest of the furniture in our home, and our interiors. And, an innovative chair design that completely caught my attention is the Nice Chair by Ali Shoieb.

Designed by Ali Shoieb, the Nice chair is designed to be a ‘disassembled chair’. Space-consuming furniture is the bane of tiny modern-day apartments with space constraints. Hence, Shoieb wanted to design a furniture piece that does not occupy too much space and can be assembled and disassembled with ease. The design should be easy to install, and should not require much expertise in installation. This was the intention behind the Nice chair, whose various parts can be assembled and disassembled promptly to either create or break a furniture piece.
The minimal wooden chair can function as an ordinary chair to sit on, or even a rocker that can be moved back and forth. The rounded bottom edges of the Nice chair allow it to rock back and forth, creating a harmonious lull that could guide anyone to fall asleep. On, the other end, you can slide in a tabletop between the ridges on the arms of the chair, transforming it into a convenient space to work in. By simply sliding a plank of wood between the two sides of the Nice chair, you can create a work desk that is subtly attached to a chair, forming a compact and portable workspace.
