Bjarke Ingels Group always manages to come up with something exciting and innovative. They always manage to come up with something high-profile but this time their latest creation is something quite simple and humble – a tent. Designed in collaboration with cabin manufacturer Nokken, and dubbed Softshell, this tent is a glamping-style shelter that offers outdoor luxury spanning over two floors. It is made to resemble a safari tent out in the wild outdoors!

The Softshell can be used as a garden studio, personal retreat, or guest accommodation. It includes a timber frame and a fabric that can be selected from a variety of colors with a weather-resistant canvas. The fabric is supposed to be hardwearing, but an insulation layer can be installed to deal with cold climates. It also comes with an optional exterior deck with some seating.
The interior occupies around 193 sq ft and looks quite spacious and simple. The layout comprises a sofa bed and a compact wood-burning stove on the ground floor. It also includes a storage area and a bedside table. A ladder offers access to the optional upper floor which is netted. This section can be utilized as a hangout area, as a sleeping loft, or for storage. The tent seems to be intended for hotels and glamping sites, although it could be great for personal use too.
“With the Softshell, we’re offering the hospitality industry something that stands apart from traditional tented structures,” said Nokken co-founder James Van Tromp. “It merges the design sophistication of permanent architecture with the flexibility of a temporary solution, catering to guests who want to be immersed in nature, but with the design aesthetic and level of comfort they would expect in a luxury hotel.”
The Softshell offers a luxury glamping experience that is truly unlike any other, hence the price tag also justifies it. It isn’t like other typical tents on the market, and it is available for preorder from US$22,500. Deliveries will be made by mid-2025, and we’re excited to see Softshell make a wave in the glamping world.
