How this photo frame speaker concept gives Samsung another important spot in your home

People have finally started to realize the important role that sounds play in our lives, from the audio that gives life to our favorite shows to the music that uplifts our souls. At home, smart wireless speakers have started becoming more common, often coming in cylindrical or boxy forms. They add functionality and convenience to modern life but sometimes clash with the ambiance of a room. There are newer designs that turn speakers into more elegant objects, but these might still stand out like a sore thumb if they don’t match the rest of your furniture and decor. Sometimes, there’s a need for more subtlety, and this speaker idea for Samsung masquerades the piece of consumer electronics as an inconspicuous frame for a photo or a piece of art.

Designer: Solid VFX

Hiding speakers in plain sight is nothing new. In fact, this concept wouldn’t be the first to present the audio equipment as a piece of art of some sort. The IKEA Symfonisk frame embedded a Wi-Fi speaker powered by Sonos, one of the leading wireless speaker brands. Its minimalist design might appeal to some folks, but you were limited to just one of two designs that might grow long in the tooth after a few months.

The Samsung Speaker Music Frame concept design takes that idea but makes it more generic and more flexible, at least in theory. Unlike the IKEA frame, this box-like photo frame is considerably thicker but also much smaller. This means you won’t be limited to hanging it on walls. You can prop it up on desks or set it up on shelves. You can place it anywhere you want, anywhere that adds meaning to your interior arrangement while still letting the speaker do its thing. You can even change the frames themselves to match your mood or style.

The Speaker Frame Music also seemingly allows people to change what’s on display, whether it’s an abstract piece of art or a photo. The frame seems to have interchangeable plates where you can put any design, but it’s certainly possible to also use a digital display instead. Digital photo frames are, of course, a dime a dozen these days, and Samsung, being a leader in display technologies, would have no problem implementing something as basic as that.

Samsung is also a master of audio equipment, especially since it now owns the famed Harman Kardon. It wouldn’t take much for it to turn a simple Speaker Music Frame into a quality smart speaker, so this design isn’t as far removed from reality as more eccentric concepts are. That said, quality audio experience isn’t just about the kind of speaker but also the placement of the speaker, so it might require a bit more thought and planning on where to put this multi-functional piece of decor in order to truly enjoy the immersive audio experience it would offer.
